This former capital was founded in 1524 and is next to Lake Nicaragua. This is a beautiful and very well conserved city with a architectual mix of colonial and neoclassical style due to the reconstruction done after the filibuster William Walter burned the city in 1856. We will visit beautiful buildings such as the Fuerte de la pólvora, las iglesias de Guadalupe, María auxiliadora, La Merced and San Francisco, in addition to the house of Sor María Romero, el Palacio Municipal, la plaza de la independencia and other arquitectural gems.

From this impressive volcanic Mountain range you can appreciate the view of the majestic Lake Nicaragua, Lake Apoyo, the city of Granada and the Mombacho volcano. The Lake itself consists of a volcanic caldera which can be seen from the lookout point.
